Description: Soumak are hand knotted oriental rugs that originated in the 17th century in Caucasus. These pieces are woven flat therefore they have a very low or no pile. The motifs are tribal and the colors tend to be earth toned. They are extremely durable and can be used on either side. Since the rugs are woven without a pile they are rougher to touch.
